UICC St. Brigid Feast Day Celebration
February 1 - February 7
St. Brigid Feast Day Celebration 2023
The UICC has teamed up with the Office of the Consul General of Ireland in San Francisco, Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann Cooley-Keegan Branch of San Francisco, Irish Marvels, the Patrick J. Dowling Library, and a team of volunteers to organize a weeklong celebration of St. Brigid so that we may all join together in heralding the spring through a variety of ways.
For centuries, Saint Brigid’s Day—Lá Fhéile Bríde—has long been associated with the pre-Christian pagan festival Imbolc, representing nature shaking off its winter slumber, the beginning of Spring, and the birth of baby lambs. Beginning in 2023, Ireland will recognize February 1 as a new National Bank Holiday.

You were a woman of peace.
You brought harmony where there was conflict.
You brought light to the darkness. You brought hope to the downcast.
May the mantle of your peace cover those who are troubled and anxious, and may peace be firmly rooted in our hearts and in our world.
Inspire us to act justly and to reverence all God has made.
Brigid you were a voice for the wounded and the weary.
Strengthen what is weak within us. Calm us into a quietness that heals and listens.
May we grow each day into greater wholeness in mind, body and spirit.
