Dear Members

February is a longer month than usual this year (29 days!) and, it is only fitting that your United Irish Cultural Center has a good array of events, celebrations and wonderful dining and banquet opportunities on the calendar for the month.

January saw the institution of a renewed New Year celebration at the Center. The New Year in Ireland was celebrated at 4pm (New Year time in Ireland) with a wonderful crowd that included several families with children and a good share of other members who enjoyed exceptional hors d’oeuvres and champagne. Following that, the traditional New Year was celebrated in the Emerald Room and Bar with music and a very special dinner. Donagh McKeown contributed mightily with his talent at the 4 pm and at the traditional New Year celebration. Yours truly enjoyed both festivities! Although the recorded music was wonderful, your Board is determined to have live music for our next New Year celebration!

February is going to be another fun-filled, active month. On Saturday, February 6th, we will welcome back Cormac Gannon with his traditional Irish music group. This wonderful group who entertained us on St. Stephen’s Day will return and we are proud to have them with us in the bar area the first Saturday of each month from now on! Come and enjoy dinner and Cormac’s group!

On Super Bowl Sunday (February 7th) come out to the Center and cheer on your favorite team with our food and drink specials! As of this date, the writer isn’t sure of the teams, but we do know that it’s not the 49ers! (Next year?)

Three other super-important celebrations at the Center lie in wait for us in February as well. See all of you at the special Valentines Dinner (Sunday, February 14th), the Rose of Tralee Celebration (Saturday, February 20th) and the United Irish Society’s Grand Marshal Dinner (Friday, February 26th).

I close with a brief reminder to renew your UICC membership for the 2016 year. The life of our Center depends on your membership dues. Your Board of Directors has faith in your implied approval of the improvements that have been made at the Center in terms of upgrades and maintenance. We appreciate your input and ask that you let us know of any places where you can see the need for “something different”. We have always listened and so appreciate your caring comments.

Happy February to all! Enjoy the extra day!

In Unity,

Judith Kell, President

UCC Board of Directors
