Marin County and Quetzaltenango, Guatemala have a beautiful relationship and deep cultural ties due to Marin’s highly respected immigrant community. Guatemalan immigrants have served Marin’s working class for decades as nannies, laborers, baristas, gardeners, cooks and more bringing great value to Marin County. With a hard work ethic and nurturing care, Guatemalans have helped shape Marin County into a thriving, beautiful and peaceful county we all call home.

The photography exhibit “Redemption: Two Borders, Two Dreams” celebrates and honors the Guatemalan immigrants of Marin County as the broader community can celebrate them. Guatemalan American Gaby Mazariegos and Photographer Barbara McVeigh unite to share a story of community, peace and resilience to build a better world of understanding, education and cultural celebration. With music, food and dancing, it’s a party showing up for one another as we do here in Marin, the county named after the great Miwok Chief.
