The UICC is proud to once again sponsor the SF Irish Film Docfest to Showcase Compelling Stories of Resilience and Creativity, now in its seventh year.

Promising a captivating lineup of documentaries that explore the rich tapestry of Irish culture and the human experience, Docfest is March 30 at the Delancey Street Screening Room in San Francisco, this year’s festival will feature three thought-provoking films that offer unique perspectives on life, creativity, and resilience.

Kicking off the event at 3:30 PM is “In the Shadow of Beirut,” a poignant portrayal of refugees living in impoverished conditions in Beirut. The film delves into their struggles to survive while highlighting stories of resilience and humanity that transcend borders and cultures.

Following at 5:15 PM is Cara Holmes “Notes from Sheepland,” a captivating documentary that follows an Irish woman’s journey as she returns to Ireland to embark on a new chapter of sheep farming in Co. Wexford. Interweaving her artistic creativity with the challenges and joys of rural life, the film offers a unique glimpse into the symbiotic relationship between art and agriculture.

At 6:30 PM, audiences will be treated to “The Graceless Age: The Ballad of John Murry,” a compelling story of redemption and recovery by Sarah Share. John Murry was on the cusp of greatness with his highly acclaimed album The Graceless Age (2013) when, addicted to heroin and creatively exhausted, he washed up on Irish shores a broken man. Now, he is ready to retrace his steps back into the dark heart of American life to face his difficult childhood, traumatic assault and resulting years of opioid addiction. Through Murry’s upbringing and his experiences in Mississippi, the documentary explores themes of resilience, artistry, and the healing power of music.
