2026 Honoree:
Bret Iwan
The United Irish Cultural Center of San Francisco is proud to announce Bret Iwan as the inaugural recipient of the Irish Arts and Innovation Award, to be presented at the 2nd Annual Emerald Gala on March 14, 2026, at the historic Hibernian Bank Building in San Francisco.
Established to celebrate individuals whose work reflects the enduring spirit of Irish creativity, resilience, and leadership, the Irish Arts and Innovation Award honors those whose artistic achievements and innovation inspire audiences and strengthen cultural connections across generations.
Bret Iwan, the official voice of Mickey Mouse for The Walt Disney Company, has brought one of the world’s most beloved characters to life with authenticity, warmth, and imagination. Beyond his voice work, Iwan is an accomplished artist and designer whose creative vision spans multiple disciplines—from painting Mickey Mouse’s official 95th anniversary portrait for the Walt Disney Archives, and to his most recent Disney Parks merchandise collection “Expedition Mickey Mouse”, a rugged, adventure-inspired apparel line that reflects his signature blend of creativity and storytelling.
Proud of his Irish heritage, with a Dublin-born mother and newly acquired Irish citizenship, Iwan carries his roots with him in every endeavor. His artistry and leadership exemplify the imagination, heart, and innovation that lie at the core of Irish and Irish-American identity.
Through his work, Bret Iwan continues to inspire new generations of dreamers, creators, and innovators—embodying the very essence of the Irish Arts and Innovation Award.
