Irish Heritage & Humanity Award

Honoring Global Contributions to Peace, Culture, and Community

Established in 2025 to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the United Irish Cultural Center of San Francisco and express a commitment to building for our future, our Irish Heritage and Humanity Award is an annual recognition celebrating individuals who embody the values of Irish heritage through their extraordinary impact on the world. Honorees champion peace, humanitarianism, culture, and leadership in ways that uplift humanity.

2026 Honoree:
Bruce A. Morrison

Attorney, Congressman, and Lifelong Advocate for Peace and Justice

Bruce A. Morrison—attorney, congressman, and lifelong advocate for peace and justice—has made an indelible impact on Ireland, Irish America, and the cause of immigrant rights. As Chair of the U.S. House Subcommittee on Immigration, he authored the landmark Immigration Act of 1990, whose special “Morrison Visa” program opened new doors for thousands of Irish immigrants and revitalized the Irish American community.

His influence extended far beyond legislation. During the Northern Ireland peace process, Morrison served as a trusted intermediary among Irish leaders, Sinn Féin, and the Clinton administration, playing a pivotal role in securing the U.S. visa for Gerry Adams and helping set the stage for the IRA ceasefire and the Good Friday Agreement. He went on to co-chair the Ad Hoc Committee to Protect the Good Friday Agreement, ensuring continued American support for peace.

A public servant dedicated to fairness, inclusion, and human dignity, Bruce Morrison exemplifies the values of the Irish Heritage and Humanity Award. The United Irish Cultural Center is proud to honor him for his extraordinary contributions to the Irish people and the promise of a more just world.

The Celtic spiral is known to be the oldest Celtic symbol discovered, believed to be traced back to around 3200 BC. The single spiral symbolizes growth and change.
