About In the Name of the Son:
In the Name of the Son is a captivating solo play starring Shaun Blaney that chronicles the extraordinary life of Gerry Conlon (of the Guildford Four) following his release from prison in 1989 (where he had been falsely convicted and held by the British Government for 15 years). Conlon’s story becomes a metaphor for Northern Ireland’s struggle to escape the trauma of the Troubles. The play charts his rollercoaster of newfound freedom—receiving a major financial settlement, mingling with celebrities like Johnny Depp and Daniel Day Lewis—while battling guilt and addiction in private. Ultimately, Conlon finds redemption in his global advocacy against injustices similar to his own.

Green Shoot Productions (GSP) was formed in 2002. It is a Belfast-based professional non-profit theatre company. Green Shoot is dedicated to commissioning and producing new writing for the stage to the highest possible standards. The company’s key objective is to develop and produce plays that are socially and politically relevant to Northern Ireland facilitating debate within and across our communities through theatre and related activities support meaningful engagement and education.
