The GOLDEN GATE PARK BAND (GGPB) Announces 2024 Summer Concerts – 142nd Season.

April 28 – Oct. 6, 2024 (25 Concert dates) – Sundays* at 1:00 pm and usually end between 2:30 and 2:45 pm. There is no intermission. Founded in 1882 the GGPB holds the distinction as the San Francisco’s Oldest Musical Organization. GOLDEN GATE PARK BAND (GGPB) performs free weekly concerts at the Spreckels Temple of Music (also known as the Bandshell), located in Golden Gate Park75 Hagiwara Tea Garden Drive (at Music Concourse Drive – btwn. de Young Museum & Academy of Sciences) SF 94118. ALL SHOWS FREE.

Featuring over 30 professional musicians, the GGPB performs a wide variety of wind-band music that reflects the culture, traditions, and values of San Francisco and the Bay Area while delighting audiences of all ages and interests. To learn more about GGBP visit https://goldengateparkband.org

Space is first come first serve. Park benches are set up in the music concourse. Guests may bring picnic blankets and small folding chairs for additional side seating.

The GOLDEN GATE PARK BAND (GGPB) 2024 Summer Concerts – 142nd season opens on Sun., April 28 and will continue on Sundays through Oct. 6, 2024. There will be special concerts on July 4 (Thurs.) and Sept. 2 (Mon.) Labor Day. Additionally, a myriad of San Francisco / Bay Area cultural organizations and heritages will be showcased throughout the season. The music of Poland, Armenia, Scotland, Hungary, Ukraine, Mexico, Ireland, and Spain will be showcased at dedicated concerts. Performances for Juneteenth and LGBTQ+ Pride will be featured in June, along with an August performance in celebration of first responders. Families will also enjoy the dedicated Mother’s Day and a special concert for Kids, and a concert featuring music of Disney.
All concerts that feature music of specific nationalities or cultures include costumed guest performers, dancers, singers, and speakers who will enlighten and entertain.

July 21 – Something Old, New, Borrowed, and Blue including works of Sousa, Leroy Anderson,
Claude Bolling and more.

July 28 – Tune Town – Music for Kids of all ages; Variations on Pop Goes the Weasel, Barnum & Bailey’s Favorite, music from The Wizard of Oz and more.

August 4 – A concert in honor of Neighborhood Emergency Response Teams and First Responders including works of The Beatles, Gershwin, Frank Erickson and more.

August 11 – Kilts, Ceilidhs, Castles, & Haggis – Music of Scotland with the Dunsmuir Scottish Dancers.

August 18 – St Stephen’s Day Celebration:Hungarian Culture – With performers from the Hungarian Heritage Foundation, the band will play favorite Hungarian pieces.

August 25 – Our annual program in Solidarity with Ukraine featuring many guest performers from the
Bay Area Ukrainian community and beyond.

September 1 – Big Band Day: Glen Miller and More! – includes Big Band jazz classics from the Swing Era and beyond. Dancers welcome!September 2 – Labor Day (Mon.) – Winds of Work, a Labor Day Celebration honoring working people
everywhere.

September 8
 – Viva Mexico! with guests Ballet Folklorico Mexicano de Carlos Moreno.

September 15 –The Emerald Isle in partnership with the United Irish Cultural Center of San Francisco.

September 22 
– Celebrating the Flair of Spanish Flamenco featuring guest performers from Toque Tercero Flamenco lead by Damien Alvarez.

September 29 – 
no GGPB concert.

October 6
 – Season Closer “Sounds from the Screen: Music of Film and TV” including music from
John Williams, Henry Mancini, Danny Elfman and other famous film composers.

Concerts are approximately 70 to 90 minutes in length. Programs subject to change.
